According to the report published by Starteed, a crowd company that develops customised solutions for crowdfunding platforms, the overall capital raised by Italian start-ups and PMIs through crowdfunding platforms reached € 778,8 million in 2020.
In the year of Covid-19 pandemic, companies raised € 339 million of capital, which represents a 75% growth compared to 2019. As a matter of fact, many Italians participated to a crowdfunding campaign for the first time in 2020.

All crowdfunding models experienced significant growth, especially equity-based crowdfunding platforms (€ 251 million in 2020; +95%) and lending-based crowdfunding platforms (€ 426 million in 2020; +75%), thanks also to the new favorable national regulatory environment.

The growth was particularly important for the equity-based and lending-based platforms focused on real estate, whose projects seemed to satisfy the interest of many investors looking for safer and short-term returns.
The top crowdfunding platforms – according to the total amount raised in 2020 –were the following:
- Borsa del Credito (€ 75,3 million)
- October (€ 45,5 million)
- Prestiamoci (€ 24,4 million)
- Opstart (€ 22,8 million)
- Crowdfundme (€ 17,5 million)
- Walliance (€ 14,3 million)
