Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, 2020 confirmed the growing trend of Venture Capital in Italy.
According to EY Venture Capital Barometer 2020 – an EY’s analysis in collaboration with VC Hub Italia – the total capital raised by Italian start-ups and scale-ups from professional investors (venture capital funds, corporate venture capitals, family offices and business angels) reached to € 569 million in 2020, +55% compared to 2019.
2020 registered a 37% reduction in the number of deals (111 compared to 175 deals in 2019) and, therefore an important increase in the average deal value, from € 2.1 million in 2019 to € 5.1 in 2020.

Compared to the previous year, the number of deals with more than € 10 million doubled in 2020: from 7 deals in 2019 (of which 4 > €20 million) to 14 in 2020 (of which 6 > €20 million).
Moreover, 2020 registered a strong reduction in the number of fundraising rounds related to the pre-seed, seed and early VC investment stages.
